The White House Correspondents’ Association today announced an “Emergency” Correspondents’ Dinner will take place in response to the protests currently sweeping America. According to WHCA chair Chris Cillizza “it will be very cool” and will be hosted by comedian Ellen Degeneres. “We just felt like now would be a good time to come together as a country and hear about how pepper spray, if you think about it, could be a type of salad dressing,” says Cillizza, “Do you like that one? I wrote that one.”

Saying she was “very excited” to host the event in a time of national mourning and activism for victims of police brutality, Degeneres said she won’t be afraid to pull punches. “I don’t care whether you are a traffic cop or a horse cop, I am going to absolutely come after you for your willful complicity in not knowing how to Nae Nae.”

While President Trump has refused to take part in past Correspondents’ Dinners, this time could be different. Sources say Degeneres, who is friendly with retired war criminal/watercolorist George W. Bush, has reached out to the administration in hopes of securing Trump’s attendance. “He should come,” she said. “I don’t know if D.C is in the red zone of lockdown yet…but when he’s there it’ll be the orange zone!”

The White House has yet to respond to the invitation.
