Jimmy Carter: Why I Donated My Vaccine To A House I’m Building

Rosalyn and I send our best wishes to every American this holiday season, with sincere hope that the new year will bring a measure of peace and calm as vaccine distribution ramps up.

We were offered the coronavirus vaccine this week. As a former President I think it’s important that I publicly demonstrate the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, particularly to fellow senior citizens.

After careful consideration, we have decided to donate our vaccines to houses I’m building with Habitat for Humanity. I will do this on live television to help build confidence.

I am no stranger to health concerns. After my fifteenth black eye, Rosalyn made me give up my hobby of rollerskating through jiu jitsu studios. She has had her own struggles as well. By the grace of God we are both alive.

But this moment isn’t about us.

It’s about the American people, and the mostly wooden houses they live in — homes that aren’t vaccinated. As of this writing, nearly every home in America remains unvaccinated. We can fix this. Won’t you join me?

God bless America.
